Escario Central Hotel in Cebu City, Philippines was a gem of find. I didn’t have any prior arrangements made when I came to visit Cebu but this gem came highly recommended by my loving aunt who happens to live nearby the hotel location.
The hotel didn’t have any high-rise buildings with a full view of the city or the Mactan island. The rooms were built-in rows with a mini garden and small koi pond leading to the reception area. The entire hotel is located in the Escario Central compound where a number of great restaurants and convenience store is located. If you long to experience Philippines’ iconic fastfood chain, Jollibee, there’s one right across the street. So thats another plus factor in choosing to stay in this hotel.
I’ve always thought of the word hotel as synonymous to something not cheap. Affordable, yes, but not really a number one option for backpackers like me. I was surprised to find that they have only two types of rooms, the Red and the Orange. The Red has 2 queen size beds for the price of PHP1800.00! Thats 2! The Orange room has 2 double size beds for the price of PHP1500.00. Not bad for a spacious room, own toilet and bath, air-conditioning, Cable TV, closet and a mini desk.
I give the hotel plus points for its cleanliness in the bedrooms and around its premises. Even though the hotel is located in a residential district of Cebu City, the place is surprisingly quiet. During daytime, you will hear some karaoke belters from the nearby neighborhood but everything dies down by 10PM.
The location of Escario Central Hotel is good too. The hotel is located inside a compound Escario Central Mall where a number of good restaurants are located. There is really a great ramen place just beside the hotel.
Accessibility to public transportation is very easy. You can flag a jeepney or taxi right outside the street. There is a nearby branch of Bo’s Coffee, Cebu’s own version of Starbucks. But if you miss the flavor of something familiar, Starbucks is just a few blocks away. Ayala Central Business District is also just a few minutes of taxi ride from the hotel.
I can only think of one bad thing during my stay at the hotel. The free wifi connection does not reach up to the inside of the room, its only available in the common areas and the reception area but the connection is pretty fast once you get connected. So everytime I need to check emails or do minor work on my blog, I need to bring out my laptop in the common area which also doubles as the smoking area.
Overall, my stay at this hotel was really good. I had a restful stay, comfortable sleep and nice dinner of authentic ramen from that nice Japanese restaurant nearby. The checkin process was fast and the receptionist was very accommodating of my every request. For the verdict, the place is your average kind of hotel, where rooms are spacious and you have privacy for the price of PHP1500.00 – 1800.00. So go ahead, include Escario Central Hotel in your options of where to stay when planning to visit Cebu City.
