Railay Viewpoint Resort is strategically located on the east side of the Railay point in Krabi, southern part of Thailand. The resort is near to a lot of establishments, cash ATM, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, tour operator kiosks, tattoo parlors, laundry and the walking street leading to the awesome Railay west side.
The resort has some cottages lined up in rows, a dorm building and some few apartment style buildings. It has a pool within the resort, a restaurant that comes alive at night with its music and seafood grill style, an internet cafe and a cash ATM within its premises.
For a solo traveller, the resort and its surrounding areas are pretty safe to walk around. I also met a female solo traveller from another hotel but opted to eat Railay Viewpoint Resorts’ restaurant. She said she was trying out the place because the place where she was staying was pretty loud that night.
I loved the room where I stayed in for 3 nights simply because of its location within the resort. I was thankful it wasn’t located in the dorm building behind it. My room was located outside, in the apartment style setting. I had a coffee table outside where I can have my coffee in the morning, hang my swimsuits to dry and have beer in the evening. The room had the usual facilities, own toilet and bath, cable TV, air conditioner, queen size bed, closet with a few hangers and a personal refrigerator.
You can also have a quiet afternoon by the poolside with your eReader or paperback. There are few deck chairs that you can lie in facing the pool but the afternoon sun can be pretty direct. It is better to head out and walk to the east side of Railay, grab a cold local beer and lazily watch the sunset.
There was a staff named Pam who was really nice to solo travellers. She had a guest before from Canada who had some serious stomach problems due to something she had from one of the restaurants around the island, and Pam kept reminding me to be careful of the places I choose to eat. She felt kind of guilty about her previous guest experience so she mad sure to check on guests travelling solo. She always check on me and greet me every time I pass by the reception area. The rest of the staff I met during my staff were nice and helpful too.
The resort also had some package tours for island hopping and makes it easier for me to plan the rest of my stay. You can check out the tours they offer also at the reception area but another lady handles the transaction for this because the tour is handled by another office but still part of the resort company.

The wifi connection was the unexpected one for me. It was really bad. You had to sit in the stools provided for in the reception area while you are connected. Walk for a few meters and you lose your connection. Their internet connection is shared with their internet cafe so basically you share the same connection with the internet cafe customers. For the wifi password, you need to get it from the nice lady that mans the small internet cafe behind the reception area.
The manager at the reception area shouts at guest or to anyone. Seriously. I had the unfortunate luck of having to talk to him about the tour that I booked and was checking with him what time Pam usually checks in the morning. In his shouting manner, he told me that Pam will not be around that morning and that I should check again the next day. A pretty rude scene I must say. I notice that he shouts a lot. Even to his staff. I’ve read some reviews about this manager on Tripadvisor website.
Railay Viewpoint Resort is not that bad really, it’s a decent place if you are looking for a budget friendly stay, without any fuss and straightforward, sans the wifi connection, that is also near the many shops and attractions that Krabi has to offer. And just a few minutes from the east Railay side where Krabi is best known for, the beautiful sandy beach with clear waters.
